Google releases updated Android Automotive Emulator
News in Brief:
- Google released a new update for Android Automotive Emulator.
- This update facilitates developers in creating excellent applications for Android Automotive – an operating system for cars.
- Google Play, Google Maps, and Google Assistant are now a part of Android Automotive.
- Cars like Volvo Electric XC40 and Polestar 2 will adopt this OS.
Google has recently launched a new update for Android Automotive OS Emulator (a full operating system for cars), making it easier for app development companies to create impeccable apps for the infotainment systems in cars.
Though Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 are expected to land in the market in 2020, however, there is still a chance for Android Automotive cars to make their way into the market right now, with this update.
What is more, this new updated version of the Android Automotive OS Emulator comes with Google Play Store now. This simply means that now, developers do not have to wait for the launch of vehicles, as they can do everything from designing, developing, and testing of apps within the emulator.
What has been observed is that Google is adamant about offering media apps to drivers, so that they can have the same amazing experience on tablet-sized vehicle touch screens as they do with their smartphones. Some other new additions to the apps available for Android Automotive are YouTube Music, Audioburst, Amazon Music, etc.
At the I/O 2019, Google released guidelines on design with an Automotive OS emulator system image. These incredibly helped developers in designing, developing and testing the existing media applications to see how they perform on Android Automotive OS.
Apparently, this new update is released so that everything is done and polished when Volvo electric XC40 Recharge and Polestar 2 come out. The latter is announced to experience the Android Automotive OS first. Meanwhile, other companies like Cadillac, Chevrolet, etc. will follow this trend from 2021.
Along with media apps, it is a good thing that Android Automotive will also integrate Google Assistant and Google Maps. It is evident that Google has simplified everything for the Android app developers, and had rendered a great deal of UI customization to carmakers so that they can deliver an optimized and innovative experience to the users.
