The world is swooning over the recently launched Apple’s flagship device – iPhone X. The phone has officially put an end to our days of long pressing and double clicking  for activating the plethora of iOS shortcuts.

Since forever, Apple’s home button has been the epicenter of navigation. And depending on how long or how many time you clicked on it, the button would do a series of highly useful tasks, from initializing Apple Pay or Siri to making the accessibility menu or app switcher visible. It was our iPhone comfort zone, which has gone with the device.

iPhone X has replaced home button features with a mix of gestures and has brought other buttons in the prime state.

Let us take a look at the new gestures that have been introduced by Apple in iPhone X:

1. Back to Home:

Let us start with a basic Home button feature: going back to iPhone X home screen – Simply swipe towards the top from the base of device screen.

2. Wake up the device:

In addition to raising the phone for waking it up, like the other modern day iPhone devices, you can tap on the side button or tap the display once to wake your device up.

3. Switch between apps:

To switch between the running apps, you can swipe either right or left among the bottom edge of the device. In case you are already working in an application, swipe right to shift to another application.

4. Close a running app:

Although you won’t have to do it very often, but in case you need to kill a running application from the app switcher section, the process is different than what followed in other iPhones. On the other iPhones, one had to swipe up to the application cards. While, on your iPhone X device, you have to press your finger to the screen and then hold the cards till a red (-) symbol comes in the card’s corner. Tap on the red minus symbol to switch the app off. The process is very similar to how you delete applications from the home screen.

5. Taking a screenshot:

To take a screenshot of something on your Apple device, all you have to do is press the volume up and side buttons of your phone, simultaneously.

6. Reachability:

The feature has not been enabled by Apple on iPhone X by default. You will have to manually get into Settings tab for turning it on. Next, swipe below from the bottom most edge of device screen, where the little dark bar is. The bar will then indicate the placement of gesture area and your whole display will then shift down so that you can get to the top of the apps with greater convenience.

7. Notifications:

To read the notifications that you must have received on your device, you earlier had to swipe down from the top edges of the screen with previous Apple devices. However, in iPhone X, you have to follow two “swipe down from top of the device screen” movements, so you have to swipe down from device’s left most side of the screen to receive all your notifications.

8. Control Center:

With the screen bottom now occupied with other home features, the control center section has been moved at the top in iPhone X. All you have to do is swipe down the right side of the screen corner. Remember the screen’s left side is for Notifications.

9. Invoke Siri:

While you can still use your voice and say “Hey, Siri” to activate the Apple assistant, but you can still call upon her by pressing and holding the iPhone X side button.

10. Apple Pay:

To initiate payment with Apple Pay, you have to tap iPhone X side button two times. You will then have to authenticate payment with either your passcode or Face ID . To make it easy to work around, remember that both Apple Pay and Siri are to be activated using the iPhone X side button.

11. S.O.S. and Power off:

For switching off the device or for getting the S.O.S. option, you will have to hold the side button and any of the volume button at the same time for a couple of seconds.

12. Force reset:

To quickly reset your iPhone X, all you have to do is click volume up button, then tap the volume down button, and then press and keep holding the side button.

13. Accessibility:

You can call on the accessibility feature by pressing the side button three times. But before that, you will have to turn the Accessibility Shortcut on by following this step – Settings > General > Accessibility.
